Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee “following an initial period of rest and targeted intervention” and will be out 6-to-8 weeks, the team announced.
Ball was recently diagnosed with a small meniscus tear in his left knee and was evaluating treatment options before ultimately reaching this decision.
The 24-year-old is expected to travel to California to have the procedure in the coming days, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ball underwent arthroscopic surgery on the same knee in July 2018 to address another small meniscus tear, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago notes.
In 35 games this season, Ball is averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Without Ball in the lineup for the foreseeable future, Coby White will continue to start, and rookie Ayo Dosunmu has also started the last three games, putting up impressive averages of 18.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 76.7% from the field and 70% from three-point over that span.
