Will the Celtics be buyers or sellers at next month’s NBA Trade Deadline? One new report indicates the team is prepared to explore both options.
According to Michael Scotto of USA Today, the Celtics have “expressed interest” in acquiring forward Jeff Green from the Denver Nuggets, as well as Phoenix Suns center Jalen Smith.
Green has played for 11 NBA teams over 14 seasons in the league, and is averaging 10 points per game in a primarily starting role with the Nuggets this year at the age of 35. Last season with the Brooklyn Nets, he set a career-high shooting 41.2 percent from three on 3.7 attempts per game.
Originally drafted fifth overall by the Celtics in 2007, Green was dealt to Seattle as a part of the Ray Allen trade before he appeared in a game with Boston. However, he returned in 2011 as the highlight return in a package deal that sent Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City.
