Ex-NBA big blasts Pistons medical for Bol Bol trade fiasco

The Denver Nuggets thought they had a deal done when they sent Bol Bol to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Rodney McGruder and a second-round pick.

The deal, however, fell through due to a failed physical which reportedly caught the Nuggets off guard as Bol had been relatively healthy with the Nuggets of late.

One of the first to report the news of the reneged Nuggets-Pistons deal was ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowksi on Twitter. His tweet drew an angered response from a former NBA veteran who apparently had some lingering beef with the Pistons for a similar event that happened to him.

Donatas Motiejunas, who in 2016 was traded by the Houston Rockets to Detroit, was also sent back to where he came due to a failed physical he feels was erroneous.

“How many time The NBAPA will let this happen…,” said Motiejunas on the voided Nuggets-Pistons trade.

“I was failed on physicals and told by Detroit doctors i will not play basketball again … 6 years laters i am still here and have many years to go . They destroying young players names and futures in NBA by doing this .”

It’s hard to gauge exactly if there indeed is any malpractice at play. On the one hand, perhaps there could be some truth to Donatas Motiejunas’ claims after he defied what the Pistons medical staff had diagnosed him with.

On the other hand, Bol Bol did have some significant injury history. The Nuggets center also seems largely unrelated to Motiejunas’ deal from six years back. What possible motive could the Kings have for agreeing to a trade only to have it taken back?

Whatever the case may be, here’s to hoping Bol Bol can stay healthy just like Donatas was and prove those doctors wrong.
