Spain faced a tough challenge against Canada and unfortunately came up short, losing with a score of 85-88 in their final second-round match at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

This marks a significant moment for Spain, as it’s the first time since 1994 that they haven’t advanced to the World Cup Quarter-Finals.

On the other hand, Canada secured a spot among the top 8 teams for the first time since 1994, marking a historical achievement for them.

Big man Willy Hernangomez was a standout performer for Spain, leading the team with 25 points and 6 rebounds.

However, despite their efforts, Spain couldn’t secure the win. Additionally, Dillon Brooks had a remarkable game for Canada, with 11 of his 22 points coming in the crucial fourth quarter.

“I am super proud of the team,” Willy Hernangomez said. “We fought all game, but they just played better for 40 minutes. We say congratulations to Canada, but we fought. I’m proud of my teammates and my coaching staff.”
