Plymouth City Patriots picked up their biggest win of the season yet Friday night as they managed to topple London Lions in front of their own home crowd, whilst B. Braun Sheffield Sharks were victorious over Surrey Scorchers in front of Sky Sports cameras.

Having started to turn the corner in recent weeks and picking up several victories after a difficult first half of the season, the visiting Patriots managed to just edge the home-side by just two points, 81-83, backed by a double-double performance from former Lions’ player Rashad Hassan.

London had produced a promising start to the game, with Josh Ward-Hibbert – who incidentally passed 500 Championship points in his BBL career tonight – produced an impressive 13 points in the first half, giving Lions a 13-point advantage heading into the second half.

Within the opening minutes of the third period, they extended that lead to 14, before Rashad Hassan and Joe Hart combined to give Patriots a nine point scoring run to bring that lead back down to single digits.

As the final period opened, Plymouth were prepared for a fight as they went on a 6-0 scoring run to give them the lead for for the first time since the early stages of the first quarter.

Back by additional top performances from Antonio Williams, 19 points, and Denzel Ubiaro, 15 points, the Patriots managed to keep the fight alive for the final 10 minutes and hold off a final minute potential comeback from the home side to give them their seventh win in the league, a big boost for the Play-Offs, and arguably their biggest win of the season thus far.

Meanwhile, over on Sky Sports, B. Braun Sheffield Sharks managed to power ahead of visitors Surrey Scorchers in the final period of play to hand themselves their ninth win in the league, 77-66.

Rodney Glasgow and Antwain Johnson were a dynamic duo, leading their team to victory tonight, with Glasgow knocking down 19 points and seven rebounds, whilst Johnson produced an additional 17 points.

The match up was remarkably close throughout the first three periods, with Surrey Scorchers managing to hold Sheffield to a tied first quarter and then taking a one point lead at half-time, and then holding Sheffield to the same digit lead at the end of the third period. By the time the fourth quarter commenced, it was anybody’s guess how things would play out.

But backed by a rabid home crowd at Ponds Forge, the home side produced a remarkable 14-0 scoring run to give themselves a comfortable 15-point lead to effectively hand them the victory.
