Leicester Riders will finish 2021 unbeaten at the top of the BBL Championship after a dominant performance at the Morningside Arena saw them beat Plymouth City Patriots 106-60 and move to 7-0 in league play. They now look forward to a BBL Cup semi-final second leg against London Lions on Thursday to round out the year.

It was top against bottom in this game, and it very much went to form as Riders hit 11 straight points early in the first quarter when Geno Crandall scored five, including a three-pointer, to make the score 15-6. They led by double-figures soon after as Patrick Whelan scored nine early points – among his 17 on the night – capping it with a buzzer-beating triple to end the first at 27-15.

The hosts opened the second stanza with Darien Nelson-Henry scoring eight and Zach Jackson six in a 16-3 start, and the lead was through 20. They finished the first half on a 6-0 tear, Crandall adding another four as the lead went through 30 at 56-25, with Marc Loving also scoring seven points in two minutes late on in that period.

There was no way back for the visitors, as Loving finished on a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, also handing out five assists; while they were led by 22 points from Nelson-Henry as he missed just once, going 7-8 (87%) from the field, also knocking down 7-8 at the line, with seven rebounds and five assists.
