Shabazz Muhammad Signs With NBA G-League’s Grand Rapids Gold

With the NBA having to deal with players continuously testing positive for COVID-19, former NBA players are looking at the G-League as a possible path for a comeback to the NBA. Last week, the Grand Rapids Gold signed Mario Chalmers and Isaiah Thomas. Days later, Thomas subsequently scored 42-points in his G League debut with the Grand Rapids Gold to get back in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Grand Rapids Gold added Shabazz Muhammad to the roster for the G League showcase against the Ignite on Sunday.

The Utah Jazz’s former 2013 first-round draft pick (draft right traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 21st pick) is hoping the G League’s showcase event will spark an NBA comeback. It’s not the first time Muhammad has played in the showcase. In 2014, he was part of the All-Showcase team when the Wolves sent him to the NBA Development League to play with the Iowa Energy.

Shabazz last appeared on an NBA court in 2017-18, playing 43 games with Minnesota and the Milwaukee Bucks. Since then, he has played in the Chinese Basketball Association.
