In the final game of the season on April 9, 1978, George Gervin had to record 58 PTS to earn the NBA Scoring Title over David Thompson. Thompson had played the final game of his season earlier that day and punched in 73 points.

The Iceman finished the game with 63 PTS with 33 in the second quarter alone. With an average of 27.22 PPG, Gervin won the title over Thompson (27.15 PPG).
